What is Ruqyah & Its Shariah Conditions
Explicitly established in Quran or Sahih Hadith as ruqyah/protection for this exact matter.
Ruqyah is the Islamic practice of seeking refuge in Allah and asking for healing by reciting verses of the Noble Quran and authentic prophetic supplications accompanied by light, dry blowing (nafth). Shariah conditions: 1) Must consist only of Allah's words, names, or attributes; 2) Must be in clear, understandable language; 3) Firm belief that the cure comes solely from Allah, and ruqyah possesses no independent power.
Sahih Muslim Sahih
اعْرِضُوا عَلَيَّ رُقَاكُمْ، لَا بَأْسَ بِالرُّقَى مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ شِرْكٌ
Translation (EN)
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Present to me your spells (ruqyah); there is no harm in ruqyah as long as there is no polytheism (shirk) in it.'
How to Perform / When to Recite
In a state of purity (wudu) and with firm reliance upon Allah, recite authentic Quranic verses and prophetic duas, then blow lightly over yourself or the afflicted person. Never use obscure symbols, unknown letters, or whispers.
Important Safety Note: Ruqyah is a means of seeking Allah's protection and healing; it does not replace medical care. Never hang amulets or go to fortune-tellers/sorcerers.
