Supplication When Halting at a New Place or Traveling
Explicitly established in Quran or Sahih Hadith as ruqyah/protection for this exact matter.
When staying at an unfamiliar house, hotel room, or open land while traveling, the Prophet ﷺ taught this comprehensive supplication that repels harmful creatures and jinn until one departs.
Sahih Muslim Sahih
أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Translation (EN)
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'He who halts at a place and says: I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He has created, nothing would cause him harm until he moves from that place.'
How to Perform / When to Recite
Upon arriving at any new location, recite with conviction: 'A'oodhu bi-kalimatil-lahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq' (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created). Nothing will harm you there by Allah's leave.
Important Safety Note: Ruqyah is a means of seeking Allah's protection and healing; it does not replace medical care. Never hang amulets or go to fortune-tellers/sorcerers.
